Before & After: Meadow Brook Homestead
Inspired by treasured getaways to the Texas countryside, take a deep dive into how we transformed this outdated suburban home into a rustic refined retreat.
Like many of the homes we first walk into in Houston, we found a once-loved 1990s home that held true to the decade it was built in, from its well-worn tile flooring to its now-outdated compartmentalized floor plan.
But our clients (thankfully!) saw the potential this home had, as it sits in a beautifully secluded cul-de-sac, perfect for their big and busy family. They bought the property, then brought in prominent builder Bill Hughes, who invited our team at Charbonneau Interiors to tackle the project with him, and turn this outdated house into a beautiful home.
After getting to know our clients through our experiential onboarding phase, we were able to get to the heart and essence of who our clients are — and give them a custom home that truly reflected who they are and how they live!

The Entry
When you first walked into the home, you were greeted with this view (and those shiny floors!), which eventually became ...
During the renovation, we took out the arches and modified the second-story railing so that as soon as you walked into the home, you felt the power of those STUNNING windows and natural light!

This family is amazing, too ... laid-back, casual, and loves to entertain. They didn't want their home to feel "fussy" or contrived; so instead of a formal living room, we opted for a funky conversation space — somewhere this family could sit with each other and with friends, and enjoy a nice glass of whiskey & wine together! As a true testament to that, these sweet clients tell us this is their most loved room in the entire home ... which makes our hearts happy!

The Outdoor Casita
A big piece of this renovation was also the construction of the outdoor casita! From what was once an empty backyard we created this entertainer's dream, complete with a summer kitchen and outdoor living spaces. In addition to the construction, we also assisted in the re-design of the pool, which now wraps around the casita.
As I'm sure you can see, this was an extremely memorable and incredible project to dream up! While these "after" photos can't *completely* capture the two years it took to bring the vision to life, it is an absolute joy to know how truly original this home is to its owners, and how much our sweet clients are enjoying life in it. :)
We have a video tour of this home live on our YouTube channel, too! Be sure to tak the Video Tour!
